Cameras and Lenses

My daughter and I have become very interested in learning more about astronomy and astrophotography. So, I have become interested in prosumer cameras again. Here, I compile a list of Sony and Canon lenses of interest for our reference.

We will add thoughts on specific lenses we end up collecting.

Cameras
Sony (alpha) a7R IV (Full-Frame Mirrorless)

Pixel Size: 3.73 microns
Notable: III + I = IV ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Cost: $$$$

Canon EOS Ra

Pixel Size: 5.34 microns
Notable: “ISO invariance”
Cost: $$$

The Ra is the “astrophotography variant” of the EOS R. This is a full-frame mirrorless Canon camera using their RF lens mount. The Ra does not have the IR-cut filter over the sensor (sorta). It allows significantly more transmission of 656 nm light, which is a red associated with “Hydrogen alpha” or “h-alpha” that is emitted by many nebulae.
